Happy Monday 🌞 As we kick off the year, I thought it would be useful to dive into two elements of my own goal-setting systems that have really helped me make real change in the last year. Hopefully, these can help you with any new routines or goals for 2024. They are:
On checking in more frequently I don’t think I can properly convey just how impactful it has been to do more frequent check-ins on my goals and the things I’m working towards. I went from maybe looking at my goals monthly and hoping I had made progress to knowing exactly what I’m doing every single day to make progress toward my goals. Guess which one has had better results for me? Scaling back to smaller actions The other idea that is useful here, is that these daily actions I’m talking about taking, I’ve scaled them back to be as small as possible so that it feels easier to do them daily than to do one big monthly push. For example, last year it was easier for me to journal one line every day than to spend the morning writing three full pages of stream of consciousness (Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages). Don’t get me wrong, I still adore morning pages, but they are not always possible for me to do every day. So the smallest possible action for journaling instead of writing one line a day. I share more about both of these in this article → How smaller daily actions can lead to better results I hope you’ll give it a read and let me know what you think. I’d also love more examples of small daily actions that others are taking — so feel free to reply with those! See you next week, Hailley P.S.: This year, I plan to continue using this newsletter to share the various ways I’m working to be better and the systems I’m putting in place to get there. If that sounds like it would be of interest to anyone you know, I’d love it if you forwarded this newsletter to them. 😊 That's all for this newsletter! Thank you so much for subscribing. This newsletter highlights the systems I create for my work (as a Marketing leader at Buffer) and in my life (as a remote worker and mom of two) so I can stay productive, calm, and organized.
HAILLEY GRIFFIS Happy Monday 🌞 Ten years ago, my email was added to Buffer’s website when I joined the team. My personal email has been around for about 20 years. You can imagine it’s not hard to find — and it’s probably been sold more times than I’d like to think about. With all of that, there’s almost always something in my inbox. If you joined recently, hi 👋 I’m Hailley. I’ve always created systems for my work (as a Marketing leader at Buffer) and for my life (as a remote worker and mom of...
HAILLEY GRIFFIS Happy Monday 🌞 I’m in the middle of hiring season at work right now — something that doesn’t happen often but always absorbs more time and energy than I expect. Between reviewing candidates, scheduling interviews, and keeping my other projects moving, hiring reminds me why one system in particular has become non-negotiable for me: weekly planning. If you joined recently, hi 👋 I’m Hailley. I’ve always created systems for my work (as a Marketing leader at Buffer) and life (as a...
HAILLEY GRIFFIS Happy Monday 🌞 One of my goals this year is to have more 100% days. That's what I call a day when I've hit all five of my daily habits. I love these days because I usually feel like I'm operating at my best and showing up as my best self — more energized, more present with my kids, more focused at work. The thing is, I can't just hope my habits will stick. I need something that keeps me motivated and accountable. For me, that's tracking them. And that's exactly what I started...
